I just finished this book and it was one of the best, if not the best BDSM erotic romance stories I have ever read. And, I read a lot!I was totally absorbed in the story, and even though it jumped back and forth in time I had no problems following it.
The characters of Jonathan and Dara were so compelling and appealing, I loved the way they related to each other as Dom and sub. The sex and related acts between them were scorchingly hot, well written, perfect.
I could feel Dara's pain and Jonathan's uncertainty but their love and devotion to each other was palpable.
I hope Ms. Lively will write again, I would definitely read any additional work she has or will publish.
This book was impactful, it will stay with me for a while and no doubt I will be reading it, again, I am sure the second reading will reveal more and I will love it as much as I did the first time.

Well I have had this book in my Wish List for a long time and finally made the purchase....What a wonderful story, I could kick myself for waiting so long....dang it. I have to admit it first drove me crazy, going from past to presence without warning, but when I realize what was happening I slowed down and enjoyed the ride....I loved the details, the emotions, the fears/pleasures/pain....such details....awwwwwww I don't give many 5 STARS but this one deserves it...
This story was very well written. Others have mentioned the flashbacks as confusing, but I thought they were brilliant and within one or two sentences you knew right where you were again! It was probably the flashbacks that kept me reading straight through. What it wasn't though was a page turner; for some reason, I just didn't fall in love with these characters. Maybe the problem was that there really wasn't any suspense. The reader starts off knowing that they've had a successful year, you know she's going to get collared and her secret was anti-climatic (really, is that going to cause demonic nightmares for three years?). All-in-all though, well written, very informative, and some intense sex scenes.
I loved this book, I stumbled onto it while buying another book and glad I did! I just couldn't put it down, the story line and characters grabbed me from the beginning. I normally get frustrated and sometimes confused with flash backs but not with this book, the author had a way with words when it came to the descriptions and the characters feelings. I truly felt it. The sex scenes were tastefully done, and real. I look forward to reading more from Nola Lively.
Wow the pages sear your finger tips with this scorching tale of a D/s relationship. Jonathan is training his new wanna be sub. but she has a lot of her own baggage to overcome before she can truly be his. The sex and punishments are vivid and at times pulse from the pages. I did find at times we needed less of the whipping and in my mind brutality; it felt like abuse.
Other than that though the writing is well done with a few omitted words that don't detract from the experience. The book opens in such a way it grips your interest and you can see the author took time to realise what would attract your attention by editing her work accordingly and there is plenty to keep you hooked as the story unfolds but beware this book is not for the faint of heart as the training of this women is severe.....
I'm not quite sure how to review this. So here it goes, yes I enjoyed the journey with these two. But at the same time, it was sometimes confusing.
The back and forth in time, I don't like. At times I wasn't sure if I was reading "present" time or past. I kind of get why the author did it that way, but I didn't like it.
But following their journey from start to finish I really enjoyed.There were parts that were hard to read but overall I really did enjoy it. That's why I did 4 stars.
Sub and Master have reached an important anniversary. Is this a serious commitment or should they move on to explore other relationships. Much of the story is related via her journal. That is an interesting device enabling us to move into the past to see how the two have reached this point. Of course, there is a secret in her past that forces the decision. Graphic sex and BDSM practices. Given the nature of the secret, the punishments begin to feel less like part of a loving relationship and more like penance. This is a stand-alone, no cliff hangers. What a relief
Nola,deserves a 5 star rating for keeping me turning the pages. I don't normally like stories that go back and forth, but somehow I couldn't stop reading this one. I'm not sure if it was because it was easy for me to follow due to the journal entries of the character, or if I just couldn't wait to see what the next bdsm scene was going to be. The story itself is sad in my opinion. A person could truly relate to the characters situations. Holding hurt/confusion/regret, and blame inside can ruin someone. I'm glad that Dara kept her journal for referencing back to her feelings so that she was able to confront her past with Jonathan. At times his punishments may have seemed harsh, but I think that is what Dara needed in order to come full circle in her submission. I would recommend this book to pretty much everyone I know.
